Introducing - Janice & Shannon of the Rusty Spur Saloon

Janice and Shannon with Rusty Spur owner Joey
"Janice & Shannon"

Las Vegas...known for the bright lights, the strip, the casinos and the Hangover. If you think that's all there is, we're here to tell you different. There's a place where the drinks keep flowing and everyone knows your name. A little bar they call the Rusty Spur Saloon. Everyone comes to the Spur, from executives to truck drivers, and bartenders Janice & Shannon makes them all feel at home. We had an opportunity to sit down with these two ladies and now we know why Las Vegas loves them so much.
Welcome ladies to Ha Candy Digital....

Ha Candy - Hello ladies, welcome to Ha Candy. Introduce yourself and the tell us where you're from
Janice - Janice Meadows originally from Michigan, been in Vegas for almost 7 years
Shannon - Hi I'm Shannon Goida, born and raised in Endicott New York.  I've lived in Las Vegas for 10 years now

Ha Candy - So how long have you worked at the Rusty Spur Saloon in Las Vegas?
Janice - I have been here a little over a year and a half
Shannon - I have worked here for 10 months, but I've been drinking here for alot longer.

Ha Candy - What made you want to become a bartender?
Janice - I don't think I ever set out to become a bartender.  It just sort of happened.  I have always been in the service industry.  I managed bars and restaurants back in Michigan.  When I moved to Vegas I got the amazing opportunity to bartend.  Turned out to be one of the best things.  It doesn't hurt that we make great money and work for the best person either.  The people you meet on a daily basis is incredible.  Wouldn't trade this job!! Imagine being happy about going to work. LOL
Shannon - Why not become a bartender?  I love the social interaction while I get to make some $$,  and I guess you can say that I'm a product of my own environment!!  :0

Ha Candy - We're heavy music lovers here at Ha Candy Digital, what kind of music do you guys listen to? Who's you're favorite artist right now?
Janice - I pretty much enjoy all kinds of music... with the exception of "COUNTRY!!!"  I'm not sure I could pick a favorite artist.  If you asked most people they would probably tell you I'm more of a " heavy metal lover"
Shannon - We have a jukebox that has over 10,000 songs. The music fits the crowd.  Most of our patrons listen to classic rock and alternative.  As for me..... PINK is my number one artist!!! I can listen to her everyday and all day,  and it never gets old.  LOVE her.  But I am also a sucker for Michael Jackson.  So vary rarely do I get to select music HAHA

Ha Candy - So we hear you guys are in the process of putting together a Rusty Spur Reality Show, what can we expect from that? We're thinking Las Vegas plus a Saloon equals trouble lol.
Janice - What can you expect?!!!  Expect everything!  This place is one of a kind! Best lil bar in Vegas.  You seriously will be shaking your head and saying to yourself..... did that just happen?!  Believe me I feel that way everyday.  You can't cast the characters or write the stuff that walks thru these doors!
Shannon - It's going to be a lot of Shannanigans that's for sure...it's one of those things that trust me, you're never going to know whats going to happen in there..between the bikers, the industry people, and the other crazies, it's a hodgepodge of things...it will be fun.

Ha Candy - What's one of the biggest misconceptions about bartenders?
Janice - I guess that people don't think its a "real" job career.  In Vegas its different its a very sought after career and actually kind of hard to get.  Also... NO the bartender is not going to go home with you! LOL
Shannon - That they drink all night and party- that they know every drink in the world, that they can have sex at any time, and we have a solution to every problem, even ones that would make Sigmeund Freud jump off a bridge. Even though we don't they still leave happy.

Ha Candy - Sometimes bartenders have to smile when they're really not in the mood, which one of you guys are the nicest to customers when you're not in the mood? lol
Janice - I guess there are days when your NOT in the mood.  But its our job to always turn it on.  When you walk in the door you have to leave everything outside and put on your game face! No punching walls Shannon.  HAHA.  The bar is our stage, we do what we do and entertain and try to make everyone forget their problems.  Whose the NICEST... LOL. ME!!  I'm kidding, SHANNON!  She has a heart of gold, it's hard for her to be even a lil mean.  Myself on the other hand I put up with nothing!!!!  Your being rude or out of control YOUR OUT!!!!!
Shannon - I am hands down, they should call me "Happy Ghandi"...I am always nice because I've worked at so many different places and I've seen it all- the one thing I've discovered is where all on this rock together and we're all dead anyway, might as well be nice to each other. : )

Ha Candy - Our owner Hasan says when he met you guys he knew you were good people, what do you think about him?? And be honest! lol
Janice - Hasan..  Not sure where to start with this.  He is probably one of thee best people I know!  Not sure I have ever seen him not smiling..  Except his shocked look when I tell him about my day haha.  He always thinks of everyone,  he tries to encourage everyones goals and dreams,  and always doing anything to help anyone accomplish them!  He NEVER stops working EVER!!  He is an AMAZING man, he is real and honest...  LOVE that guy!!
Shannon - I don't know how a guy like Hasan came into a place like thisLOL!!  But glad he did!  He is a super happy, very creative and amazingly productive person.  I'm proud to know him and call him my friend!!!

Ha Candy - I want you guys to tell us one of your craziest experiences at the Rusty Spur. Give us one of those "you had to be there" stories!
Janice - Crazy story.. hmmm stories. LOL There are so many its hard to narrow one down.  Just because they go from one extreme to the other.  Like our crazy partridge family sing along to turning ourselves into the best Axel Rose with register tape! Then the crazy kind truckers cleaning up after an exhausted drunk doctor ( Dr. SHITZHIMSELF ).  You gotta just be here to experience the hilarious and incredible stuff that happens!! THe best writers in the world cant't put on paper what happens at the spur!!
Shannon - OMG which one to choose there are so many!!!!  We've had people singing karaoke to the jukebox,  people dancing on the bar,  passing out in a stool while we draw on their face with permanent marker (and I have photos to prove it)  or take the random lot lizards from the truck stop.  How about the randoms in the bar who decide to exchange words to each other over music on the jukebox, stupid reason to start a fight I think.  He throws her car keys on the roof,  she calls the cops and next thing you know they come back in together hand in hand and tell me that they are getting married.  CRAZINESS I tell ya

Ha Candy - Can you give some advice to the up & coming bartenders out there?
Janice - You gotta have this job in your heart.  If you think you can just walk behind the bar and make money... your in the wrong place.  Your personality has to shine,  its not easy to entertain everyone and put your game face on everyday.  Its a harder job than you can imagine especially with the gaming.  Its not rocket science but if you get it you will succeed!  You will do a good job and you will do it well.
Shannon -  Acknowledge everyone as they walk in the bar,  even if your busy and you can't get to them right away.  Make people feel welcome and good.  Be friendly, be positive and please don't pretend to know a drink unless you have nailed it- know your job.
Ha Candy - Do you have any shout outs? Family, friends, customers?
Janice - Roman, Hasan and Wabe..  3 of the 4 musketeers.  You guys always make me smile.  Joey the best boss EVER! LOVES YOU!!  My friends who make the staff amazing... Brandie, Jeff, Tammy, Mike and Shannon.  Our incredible family of regulars,  we would be nothing without you!  My family back in Michigan.  Mike, Erica, Jake, Amanda and LeAnne.  My two favorite little guys Logan and Eddie.  Last but not least all the crazies (which includes most of the above lol)  for walking in the door everyday and making the Rusty Spur thee best place to be in Vegas MUAH!!!!
Shannon - Big shout out to the owner Joey!!! He is the best boss and owner all hands down.  To many amazing people to mention and if I leave anyone out I'm in big trouble.  But they know who they are!!!  We are a large tribe,  if your here your part of the spur family!! :)

Ha Candy - We want to thank you guys for taking the time to sit down with us. We wish you nothing but success in the future
Shannon & Janice - We think its AWESOME that you are focusing on us at the Rusty Spur.  Were grateful for the opportunity to let the world know about our little slice of heaven.  The Rusty Spur Saloon in Las Vegas, the most amazing little dive bar in town!!!!!!
